Dressing like songs from SOUR

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

Everyone knows that Olivia Rodrigo’s album, SOUR, has been one of the most popular and successful albums of the year! Each of her songs are so unique and they almost each have their own original style. In this post, I’ll be styling an outfit for some of my favorite songs in her album!

brutal

I think that this outfit perfectly represents brutal and the vibe that it gives off. The song talks about how teens in this society are often left feeling broken. They are unable to achieve society's idealized version of teenage/high school life. This outfit signifies this through a dark, mature look which is accessorized with playful clips and rings.

traitor

The song, traitor, is about betrayal in relationships. The music itself is very soft and provides a good contrast to the sharp, angry nature of brutal. To reflect this, the outfit includes soft colors and silhouettes. The pearl accessories and jewelry also connect to the song, as pearls represent protection from unrequited relationships.

drivers license

Driver's License is Olivia's most iconic song and is also her most popular one. Because of this, I included a purple, yellow, and white color palette that matches the art/theme of the SOUR album. My favorite item in this outfit is the purse because it is adorable and matches all of the outfit's hues.

1 step forward, 3 steps back

In my opinion, 1 step forward 3 steps back is one of the most underrated songs in the album. It has such a meaningful message about the harms of a relationship that hangs in the balance. In the outfit, I was inspired by 60s fashion and included a fun pair of Go-go boots and a nice, flowy dress with multiple colors. I would pair the outfit with either the green or white pair of resin earrings.

deja vu

Deja Vu is a very dreamy song and it always reminds me of colors swirling together, which inspired this outfit. I think blue and green are great colors to pair together and a lot of people shy away from them. However, this outfit pairs them together in an amazing way.

good 4 u

Good For You is a really fun song and it talks about being independent and shying away from being vindictive or jealous. To match the high energy voice, I chose a checkerboard crochet set that matches with the white top and bandana. This is a perfect outfit for any outing!

jealousy, jealousy

Jealousy, jealousy is a complete 180 degrees from good 4 u and talks about being jealous of people with "perfect" lives. It's a little bit ironic as one could say Olivia is singing about herself. In this outfit, I juxtaposed a girly silhouette with dark, contrasting colors.
